From today the Sami language is officially a “minority language” in Sweden. About time that the indigenous peoples in Sweden is realized… Think about it for a while. Today, in the year of 2009… How long is it that the Swedes stole the country from the Samis?
The Swedish parliament also took a decision today to make Swedish the official language of Sweden, a bit late as well perhaps, since this is the first time ever in the history of the Kingdom.
By the way, the Sámi people are among the largest indigenous ethnic groups in Europe and recent genetic studies have indicated that the two most frequent maternal linages of the Sámi people are the first Homo sapiens inhabitants of Europe and secondly descendants of common ancestors with Catalonians and the Basque people, one of the earliest inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula.
