Mohammed-ruccus (Muhammed-bråk)
The Swedish artist Lars Vilks was invited to an art exhibition in Tällberg, Sweden. The theme was “Dog”. Lars Vilks, who amongst others is State secretary in the virtual micro nation Ladonia, decided to contribute to the exhibition with three drawings of the prophet Mohammed as a round-about dog. The round-about dogs has been a widely spread thing in Sweden during more than a year, when anyone put up different types of sculptures of dogs in round-abouts. The origin of the habit is hardly known…
Vilks drawings were first happily accepted but later suddenly rejected (on the 20th of July). As pictures of the prophet are sensitive matters the event was covered by most Swedish newspapers as well as radio and TV.
The situation once again put fuel to the discussion about freedom of speech and what is acceptable to publish.
Ladonia Vice President made the following statement: “In Ladonia freedom of expression is permitted. We do not regulate art, speech, expression, religion or non-religion. The State does not practice censorship. We do not prohibit political life or freedom of association. But we do prohibit violence.”
På senare tid har det plötsligt blossat upp ett bråk kring några aldrig publicerade (!) teckningar av Lars Vilks. Dessa skulle vara med på en utställning men strax innan vernissagen refuserades plötsligt teckningarna då teckningarna bl.a. visade profeten Muhammed som en rondellhund. Utställarna tog bort bilderna på grund av rädsla för repressaliser från extremister. Till saken hör att utställningens tema var “Hunden” och att Vilks ganska nyligen byggt just en rondellhund, något som f.ö. snabbt blivit ett stort folkligt fenomen i Sverige. Begreppet Muhammed-teckningar har väl den danska tidningen Jyllands-posten för evigt skrivit in i historieböckerna, eftersom de senare användes som ursäkt för upplopp och oro över stora delar av (den s.k.) Arabvärlden. Då rörde det sig iofs om skämtteckningar eller karikatyrer, i Vilks fall handlar det om konstverk. Nu ljuder vapenskrammel från “Islamister” som med illa dolda hot (i samband med att konstnärens personuppgifter publiceras på allehanda webbplatser) kräver att konstnären genast tar bort olika teckningar från sin hemsida med mera. Kanske kan det avskrivas som konstkritik? Men då förutsättes väl att kraven backas upp av nån slags konstutbildning samt någon slags teoretisk diskurs från “kritikernas” sida.
