HopArt in North-America

tisdag, april 17th, 2007

The HopArt Tour continuos and during 2007 the first US Tour is to take place. The Ministry are in the midst of planning and producing but in short the trip will go to Seattle in US and then over to Vancouver, Canada. Several invitations has been recieved during the last years but this is the first time for HopArt to come to America. Regretfully the tour is cut short since the Arts Grant Board of Sweden doesn’t think the tour is a good idea. Well, try to stop the Minister, is all we say! As jump-date draws closer more information will be posted about the North-American Tour. For the moment two jumps are planned in Vancouver.

The picture above is an action snapshot taken with the Minister of Art & Jump suspended in mid-air, during a fearless and appreciated jump in 2002. As you can see the crowd was fairly numerous and local police estimated the audience to about 5000 people. The HopArt-jump took place in Göta Kanal from “Japanska Bron” (Japanese Bridge) in Trollhättan, Sweden. It was a very streamy water with a hard undercurrent and a rescue-boat was issued to catch the Minister after surfacing, to avoid fatality in the intakes of the huge hydroelectric powerstation downstreams.

The HopArt Tour is a life-long performance achievement and was started 5 years ago (in 2002). And up and till today there has been performed 17 different HopArt-jumps in ponds, rivers, lakes and different sea’s. The Jumps in North-America will add The Pacific Ocean to the list.
